PYLI / NEW CITY HALL AND PUBLIC PARK
The study consists of two consequently published competitions: one for the city hall building and the second one for the arrangement of all open public spaces around it, mainly the a square and a park. It is located at the topographical entrance to the mountainous valley of the Portaikos River. Not out of coincidence that "Pyli"(meaning "gate") is also the name of the settlement. Our intervention inverts the relation of the existing building to the public space, creating a totally new image and identity for the community. The park that extends parallel to the river and main peripheric road takes the idea of natural formations and riverside sediments and transcribes them into spatial elements. The notion of flow is essential.
